Our Lineage

At House of Classical Pilates, we teach the original work of Joseph Pilates as it was intended to be practiced and passed down.
This is not simply a style of Pilates I learned—it is a system I was trained to preserve. My education comes through a direct lineage that traces back to Joseph Pilates himself, through Jay Grimes and my teachers, Joel Crosby and Karen Frischman.
Classical Pilates was designed as a complete system. Rather than reinventing or modifying the method, we strive to honor its original order, purpose, and principles while meeting each client where they are.
Joseph Pilates
Founder of Contrology
Joseph Hubertus Pilates developed Contrology as a complete system of physical conditioning designed to restore the body through precise, intentional movement.
His method integrates strength, flexibility, coordination, breath, posture, balance, and concentration into one cohesive practice. Every exercise has a purpose, every piece of equipment has a role, and every movement builds upon the next.
Joseph Pilates believed that lasting results come from consistency, precision, and disciplined practice.
Jay Grimes
Direct Student of Joseph Pilates
Jay Grimes studied directly with Joseph Pilates in the original New York studio and became one of the few teachers entrusted with carrying the work forward in its original form.
Known for his extraordinary eye and deep understanding of the system, Jay dedicated his life to preserving the integrity of Classical Pilates and teaching it with remarkable precision.
Joel Crosby and Karen Frischman
Teachers and Mentors
My teachers studied extensively under Jay Grimes and continues to carry forward this authentic lineage with exceptional clarity and precision.
Through their mentorship, I learned not only the exercises themselves, but the philosophy, progression, and intention behind the entire Classical Pilates system.
My Approach
Every session at House of Classical Pilates reflects this lineage and philosophy.
